Ho'okipa Beach Park and Windsurfing

!9# Ho'okipa Beach Park and Windsurfing

No Hawaiian vacation is complete without a trip to the Ho'okipa Beach Park. Located on Maui's North Shore, Ho'okipa is one of the most famous places in the world for windsurfing. Even if you aren't an experienced windsurfer, this can be a great area to go as a tourist as there are usually a lot of people that gather there.

Windsurfing is a combination of sailing and surfing. A windsurf board is much like a surf board, but it has a triangular sail that catches the wind and allows windsurfers to ride the waves. If you're not familiar with windsurfing, there are many places in Hawaii where you can rent equipment and get lessons from professionals. Windsurfing has become a kind of extreme sport, because of the level of difficulty of the movements that can be performed on a windsurf board. Riders can do aerials and flips and turns on their boards. Windsurfers can compete for titles, and many of the competitions are held at the Ho'okipa Beach Park.

Windsurfing can definitely be a spectator sport. Even if you don't plan on getting on a board anytime soon, visiting Ho'okipa Beack Park will still prove impressive, because you'll get to watch many of the talented windsurfers perfect their craft on the huge waves. There are four different surf breaks at Ho'okipa, and you can go back and forth between them and see how each one is different and how different tricks are being done at each one.

There are quite a few different categories for windsurfing. Slalom is a type of racing discipline in the windsurfing world where riders will either ride in a figure eight or downwind to see who is the fastest. Freestyle is a type of windsurfing where riders try to do many unique tricks to determine whose are the most impressive. The Wave discipline of windsurfing is the most common, and the people who ride the largest waves with the most tricks dominate the windsurfing world.

There are plenty of fun things to do in Hawaii. A trip to Hawaii can be filled many culturally rich and diverse things, including windsurfing, which comes from the Polynesians that celebrate their history and roots in Hawaii. While the modern day windsurfing boards of today were invented in the 20th century, Polynesians had been using similar apparatuses to ride the waves previously.

Ho'okipa is ideal for windsurfing because of the large waves that come in on the beach. The waves are the longest during the winter months, and people have come from all over to experience 30 foot waves. However, at times like these, it isn't safe for people to be in the water. Even in the summer months beginners should take caution while windsurfing, because the strong winds can make windsurfing dangerous. Beginners should never try to ride the waves on their own; it's best to get an instructor and rent equipment to try this fun sport.
